If you’ve ever showed up at a paying gig and the distance to the outlet exceeded the length of your extension cord, you’ve probably wished you had an amp that didn’t need to be plugged in. I’ve been in this situation more than once, and for this issue of GuitarPro News, I investigated the battery-powered amp options that are available to a gigging picker. To my delight, I found that not only are there myriad available amps and PAs, some of them could easily be paid for in a single gig—with money left over.

Speaking of gear, several of my Acoustic Guitar cohorts and I will be attending the upcoming Summer NAMM show in Nashville June 20–22. I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for great new gigging and recording gear, and sometime in early August we’ll report on what we saw at acousticguitar.com.
