Fingerstylist Adrian Legg--who spent the latter part of '96 as the opening act on the G3 tour with Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, and Steve Vai--was signed by Red House Records, home of Greg Brown, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Martin Simpson, Paul Geremia, and a growing number of acoustic masters. Legg's first Red House release is slated for early '97.
Jeff LaQuatra, graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music, took first place in the Oswald Rantucci Guitar Competition, held in Buffalo, New York, in September.

Warner Bros. Publications is issuing guitar-tab folios to accompany Joni Mitchell's recent Hits and Misses compilations. The books feature complete transcriptions, including all solos, of many songs that haven't been published before with the correct alternate tunings.
John Jennings, best known as a producer and sideman for such artists as Mary Chapin Carpenter, the Indigo Girls, Lyle Lovett, and Tony Rice, has released his first solo album, Buddy, on Vanguard.
Elvis Costello has persuaded Warner Brothers to release a limited-edition boxed set of five CD maxi-singles (or EPs) of five songs recorded for radio broadcasts. The CDs feature Costello and Steve Nieve of the Attractions playing acoustic versions of songs from All This Useless Beauty as well as past Costello hits.
Visible Ink Press has published Tom Clynes' Music Festivals from Bach to Blues, a guide to 1,001 music festivals in North America.
Mel Bay has released Rounder Old-Time Music for Guitar, a book of transcriptions of tunes from the CD by the same name. The book/CD includes songs by Norman Blake, the Louvin Brothers, Mark O'Connor, and Ricky Skaggs.
