NEWS

After a five-year hiatus, Taylor Guitars is once again taking custom orders. Taylor-heads can now engage their wildest fantasies or peruse lists of optional features and decorative elements to construct the Taylor guitar of their dreams. All orders must be placed with local Taylor dealers.

Jimmie Rodgers was inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame on September 21. Steve Earle, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Ricky Skaggs, John Prine, Iris DeMent, and Guy Clark were among those celebrating the Singing Brakeman in song.

Tony Rice has returned to the stage after breaking his collarbone in an automobile accident in May. While he continues to have problems with his voice, he will be making appearances as the world's most scene-stealing sideman with Peter Rowan, Norman Blake, and others.

Taj Mahal and his band recently enjoyed a busman's holiday in Hawaii on the set of a new Harrison Ford movie tentatively titled Six Days, Seven Nights. Hopefully the band will survive the editor's blade and be seen on screen as the local bar band.

Red House Records and Appleseed Recordings have recently joined forces. Scottish guitarist Dick Gaughan's first recording in eight years, Sail On, signals the initial harvest of this union, while future releases will include a three-volume tribute to the songs of Pete Seeger performed by the likes of Ani DiFranco, Greg Brown, Bruce Cockburn, Jackson Browne, the Indigo Girls, Bonnie Raitt, Nanci Griffith, Roger McGuinn, Odetta, and Tim Robbins.

A missing piece of the Kate and Anna McGarrigle oeuvre has been reissued by Hannibal/ Rykodisc. Love Over and Over was originally released in Canada and the U.K. in 1982 but enjoyed only a limited vinyl release in the U.S.

IN MEMORY

Renowned acoustic bassist Roy Huskey Jr. lost his fight with cancer on September 6. His huge tone and driving pulse made Huskey one of Nashville's busiest session musicians. He also performed regularly with artists like John Hartford, Emmylou Harris, and Peter Rowan, and won IBMA's Bass Player of the Year award numerous times. Donations can be made to the Huskey family at 1403 Ardee Ave., Nashville, TN 37216.
