IN MEMORY

Stéphane Grappelli passed away on December 1, 1997, in Paris at the age of 89. Best known for his role as foil to Django Reinhardt in the Quintet of the Hot Club of France, which had its debut in 1933, Grappelli was one of jazz' most elegant and tireless ambassadors. His sweet and seamless melodic improvisations influenced half a century's worth of swing, jazz, and bluegrass violinists.
