Gibson is introducing the Sheryl Crow signature model, patterned
after Crow's beloved Gibson SJN (Southern Jumbo Natural), her preferred
ax for writing, recording, and performing her Grammy-winning songs.
The International Bluegrass Music Awards were held in Louisville,
Kentucky, October 21. Winners included Kenny Smith for Guitar
Player of the Year, the Del McCoury Band for Entertainer
of the Year, Ralph Stanley and Friends for Album of the Year
(Clinch Mountain Country), and the Martin Guitar Co.
for Distinguished Achievement Award.

Performer, songwriter, and actor Hoyt Axton died October
26 at his home in Victor, Montana. Axton penned myriad folk, pop,
and country hits, including "Joy to the World," "Greenback Dollar,"
and "The Pusher."
Zeke Morris, country mandolinist and cowriter of the bluegrass
standard "Salty Dog Blues," passed away on August 21 at the age
of 83. Morris performed in the '30s with Mainer's Mountaineers and
later with his brother Wiley as the Morris Brothers, a favorite
act among fans of early bluegrass.
