England’s neotraditional marvel Kate Rusby won prizes for
Folk Singer of the Year and Best Album (for Sleepless) at
the BBC’s National Folk Awards on February 7.
Elvis Presley’s guitarist Scotty Moore was inducted into
the Rock ’n’ Roll Hall of Fame in the new Sidemen category. James
Taylor, Bonnie Raitt, and Eric Clapton were among
the other guitar slingers honored at the March 6 awards show.
Acoustic Music Records’ highly regarded guitar recordings
are now available to the American market thanks to a collaboration
with U.S. distributor Ryko. The German label’s impressive roster
includes Peppino D’Agostino, Beppe Gambetta, Tim Sparks, and Acoustic
Music founder and fingerstyle guitarist Peter Finger.
Dave Matthews and his manager Coran Capshaw launched a new
record label called According to Our Records (ATO). The label will
debut with a CD from Welsh singer-songwriter David Gray.

away on March 7 at the age of 86. Best known as the composer of "The
Tennessee Waltz," King recorded more than 20 albums during a career
that included a ten-year stint on the Grand Ole Opry. |
