Winners of the 2000 AFIM Indie Awards include John Prine for In Spite of Ourselves, Jody Stecher for Oh the Wind and Rain, Dolly Parton for The Grass Is Blue, Waterson: Carthy for Broken Ground, and Tim O’Brien for The Crossing.

The Experience Music Project opened its doors in Seattle on June 23. The huge interactive music museum includes a historic guitar collection, rare artifacts and memorabilia, interpretive displays, and lots of hands-on exhibits affording visitors the chance to make their own sounds and interact with other virtual musicians. In Memory

Spanish luthier Jose Ramírez IV passed away on June 5 after a long illness. Born in 1953, Ramírez was the most recent head of the legendary dynasty of Madrid guitar makers. Under Ramírez IV the instruments achieved a new ease of playability and consistency of quality. The hugely influential Ramírez instruments have been prized by generations of classical guitarists for their outstanding tone and projection.
